Food As Culture - Curriculum Sample

Did you know that in China, a meal is never just about eating? In this chapter, your student will explore how geography, history, and culture have shaped one of the world's oldest food traditions. From the spicy heat of Sichuan kitchens to the delicate seafood dishes along the southern coast, every region tells a different story and it all starts with the land beneath it.

The companion lessons take the reading further, turning what your student learned into something they can think with, write with, and even plate with their own hands. Activities span geography, language arts, visual art, and science, so learning happens across subjects, not in a silo.

Your student will map a meal to a region's climate, write an evidence-based response, plate a dish using real design principles, and investigate the science behind how food is cooked and preserved. Every activity comes with a student worksheet, and the set is aligned to C3, Common Core ELA, and NGSS standards.
